Hatha Yoga for Beginners with Personal Instructor
A structured group practice guided by an experienced instructor — each session builds on the last, so participants develop at a pace that actually fits their bodies.
If you have never done yoga before, hatha is a solid place to start. It moves at a pace where you can actually feel what each posture is doing rather than just rushing through a sequence.
What happens in a typical session
Each class runs about 60 minutes. Your instructor, Brigitte Vann, walks you through standing postures, seated stretches and basic pranayama breathing. She watches your alignment and adjusts cues in real time, so you are not left guessing whether your knee should be over your ankle or behind it. That kind of immediate feedback is hard to get from a video.
Who this is suited for
People who sit at a desk most of the day tend to notice the most in the first few weeks, particularly through the hips and lower back. That said, this is not a rehabilitation program. If you have a specific injury, check with your GP first.
Honest expectations
You will not be doing headstands by week two. Hatha yoga takes consistent practice over months to build real flexibility and body awareness. Most students notice better posture and reduced tension around the 6 to 8 week mark, but everyone moves at a different pace.
Session format
Sessions are held online via video call, so you need a mat, about 2 metres of clear floor space and a stable internet connection. Blocks and a strap are useful but not required at the start.
Session Structure
Course outline
- Week 1-2: Foundational standing postures, mountain pose, warrior I, basic breath awareness
- Week 3-4: Seated and supine postures, forward folds, gentle spinal twists
- Week 5-6: Balance postures, tree pose, extended side angle, introduction to alternate nostril breathing
- Week 7-8: Linking postures into short sequences, restorative poses, end-of-course review with instructor
Each week builds on the previous one, but sessions can be adjusted if you need more time on a particular area.
